Diving the shipwreck Um-el-Faroud, Malta
Saturday, December 22nd, 2007
This is a re-cut of an old movie. I decided to add music, which really liftened it.
Scuba diving at wreck of Um El-Faroud, Wied Iz-Zurrieq, Malta.
This 10,000 ton ship was the scene of an accident back in 1995, while being worked on in a Maltese dock. An explosion aboard killed 9 workers. The ship was damaged beyond repair, and 3 years later, on September 2, 1998, it was scuttled at its current position, to create an artificial reef and dive site. It now lies upright on sandy sea bottom, at 33 m maximum depth.
The wreck is nowadays split in two parts, due to a violent storm back in 2004 (not sure on this year).
