Finding A Campground in Your Area

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

When you were growing up did both of your parents work outside the home? Today, it takes two working adults to make ends meet. While that may not leave much time for fun stuff, try to spend time with your kids any way you can. Camping is great because it is fairly inexpensive and the kids won’t care if the camping equipment is older than them. Just try to choose a campground in a location close to a lake and let the fun begin. What is important to them is spending time together as a family and camping is a chance for long talks around the campfire and a hike or two.

Actually there are some really great places to camp. Whether you are traveling by camper or in a new or used RV, there are a few spots worth mentioning and checking out. If you are traveling with kids, then be sure to check into staying at a family campground if possible, as there will be more activities for the kids to enjoy.

If you and your family enjoy history, then consider finding a campground in the Harpers Ferry area in Virginia. Setting up camp in this area is made even more special because a part of it has been preserved as a living-history park. Think John Brown, Robert E Lee and the Civil War, along with beautiful terrain. This a great place for the family.

Bird Watching: Eyes That Catch The Wings

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Flight has always captured people’s attention.  Whether it is a propelled machine of human technology, or the soaring of feathered creatures, people, with feet planted firmly on the ground, will crane their heads upward, as they are in awe of the marvelous power of flight.  However, it is the beauty and majesty of the birds that display the greatest shows to those in admiration, as it is these species of nature, which are the truest of aviators.

The truest admirers of birds take delight in their natural abilities and marvels of flight, with absolutely not a single desire to cage, confine, coop, or hunt them.  These connoisseurs of such natural splendors of these fascinating and inspiring originators of winged flight are drawn to what is referred to as bird watching.

Men and Women of all ages, as well as children, can easily and accessibly become involved in the activity of bird watching.  Birds can be observed from any outside

Boot Camp - A Term With Many Meanings

Monday, September 29th, 2008

When the military (Army, Marines, Navy, etc.) start their intensive training for new recruits it is called boot camp, appropriately named for the footwear that is given to the camp trainees in the military. The basic time frame for this would begin when a civilian first arrives on a military base and lasts through an intensive basic training camp until graduation, when they officially become a soldier. Now, this term is not used strictly by the military. It is being used to describe a number of events.

Obviously, the most notorious type of program, other than the original military use of the term, is when it is used in a correctional capacity as it refers to adolescents. Normally, these types of camps are within the US Penal System and many parents send their errant teens to these programs. It uses techniques that apply to military recruits and they are also taught socially acceptable patterns of behavior. Most times the pattern follows closely to what a military training camp would entail, not at all similar to what a youth would consider a camping hiking adventure.

The popularity of these types of base camp training programs has led several companies to figure out a way to incorporate the boot camp theme into their every day business. For instance, the popularity of a fat camp in general, perhaps indicates a need for a touch more discipline in all of us. Evidently, discipline may be in order because this type of program indicates that many overweight people are not successful in losing weight on their own and need the “hard work and don′t talk back” atmosphere, strict routines and rigorously filled timetables that at one time was strictly used by the military.

Camping – Bond with Nature

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Camping can be a fun filled pursuit. Enjoyable camping trips undertaken at a young age remain etched in the memory for a long, long time. There is no age for undertaking camping trips though. Such trips can be planned at any time as per convenience. Such trips may also be arranged in small or large groups as desired. Arranged outdoors and far away from modern habitations, such trips help create a special bond with the wilderness and with Mother Nature.

Preparation for developing the special bond with nature

In order to organize or enjoy camping trips certain basic requirements are called for. The tent is the first thing that is needed. This is important to provide housing for the campers in the tent as it is certainly not advisable to sleep in the open with wild animals being possibly around.

Backpackers Travel Insurance - Not All the Same

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

backpackers hostels

A common problem with backpackers travel insurance is the limits placed on the types of activities that are covered. In fact, many policies exclude backpacking, and also exclude some of the most popular backpacking destinations. Because of this, backpackers can be limited in where they can go and what they can do, with regard to medical coverage and the replacement of belongings. Before you venture out into the great unknown, make sure you know what insurance coverage is available to you.

Standard insurance policies exclude anything that has the potential to cause a claim. Backpacking, as well as certain other sports and activities, automatically places people at risk of illness and injury because it involves leaving the paved roads and vacation resorts. Backpacking in wilderness areas and mountain trails, as well as overnight accommodations in cheap hotels and backpackers hostels raises a lot of safety issues. Insurers also consider people who participate in those activities more likely to be assaulted or robbed. A backpacker’s travel insurance policy is issued with an understanding of the risks involved, and offers more coverage than a standard travel policy.

The travels of a backpacker are not like those of others on vacation, and a backpacker’s insurance must meet their individual needs. Backpackers travel insurance must cover a diverse range of countries, as well as the remote areas that standard policies usually fail to cover. Natural disasters can have a seriously negative impact on backpacking vacations, as well as the health and belongings of backpackers, so policies must cover those events, even if it is with certain restrictions. In addition to all of these, backpacker policies also often offer the option of extending the policy, or changing the area covered by the policy, while traveling.

Seeking For Backpacking Gear

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

traveling

You’ve planned a backpacking hiking trip or maybe just a day hike. But before you depart, be sure you get good quality backpacking gear. Bringing your trip plans to the store with you can help any customer service rep show you the right stuff for your trip. It’s important to buy good quality gear to ensure you won’t be completely stuck between a rock and a hard place, all by yourself, with no hope of help. This could mean spending more money than you planned, but it will be worth it in the end.

For short hikes you don’t need as much equipment as you would for a long hiking trip, such as traveling to and backpacking across Europe. The chance of getting lost during any hike anywhere does exist though, so you should go out prepared no matter what. Of course, you will want a sturdy backpack to carry all the other backpacking equipment in. Gear that is a must includes a compass, extra clothing and food, matches, a water bottle, sunscreen, first-aid supplies, a flashlight and a knife. These are the essentials for any short hike.

For longer trips, such as backpacking through Europe and even weekend travel to a campsite, the list gets a little longer. All the items for a short hike are needed, but add to that sleeping supplies and eating supplies and your backpacking gear list gets longer. A map, or some sort of GPS (Global Positioning System) device, is essential to help you keep your bearings. You need to get a tent and sleeping bag that can be used in the kind of climate you′ll be hiking in, along with fire starter material and pots and/or pans to help cook any food you find on the trail or bring along.

Engage Yourself In An Africa Camping safaris Holiday

camping safaris

The continent of Africa encompasses expansive areas in almost all of its countries that are perfect for camping safaris. One reason for this is that there is quite a wide array of camping sites that are available right within many of the parks and reserves, some of which are semi-permanent “under canvas” campsites. There are also a myriad of sites for camping that are adjacent to private establishments, like safari lodges, resorts and large hotels, which provide even more variety for those who want to make camping part of their safari travel adventure.

A camping safari is a very common choice for safari holidays partly because it tends to be less expensive than staying at the fine lodges and resorts, although there are also some luxury safari options for camping out in Africa as well. In general, travelers who are planning to take in the sights and sounds of Africa while camping have the option of either arranging for a private camping safari or a group camping safari.

Private camping safaris are arranged to accommodate groups as small as two people and for any size group that prefers to travel together but that don’t want to deal with strangers during their trip, with the exception of the safari guide and staff. Private groups will have separate camp facilities from any other safari group that might be touring the same vicinity and they have separate transportation as well.

Scuba Diving Video

Family vacations are special times, especially when taking a scuba diving holiday.  More and more, families are planning great adventures such as this and while they realize a scuba diving holiday needs close planning, it is worth all the effort.  The key is to pay attention to detail, especially if planning to venture to another country for scuba diving.

Perhaps most important to a scuba diving holiday is your destination. You obviously want to go somewhere, where you can dive, a place that fits your skill level, budget, time and preferences. You have to achieve a good balance between these factors, and a good travel agent who knows a great deal about diving and dive sites may be able to help you .

Of course, while a travel agent can help, another possibility is to talk to a diving shop.  Typically, the professionals can look at what you want out of the scuba diving holiday and make appropriate recommendations.
